I bought a barn full of Farmalls and one Fordson. I know very little about them. It says Fordson Major on the side of the hood. Chrome or stainless script. It has a catagory "2" three point. 4 cyl diesel, pto with a huge drive housing under the belly. 30 inch rear rubber. It has been sitting inside for years and is in really nice shape. It is covered with 1/2" of dusty oily dirt. Where do I look for a number tag? any help is appreceated. Thanks. Dennis

Dennis:

Your Fordson Major may have the serial number in one of two, or three places. First,, I would look on the right hand front corner of the block at junction of block and head. There is a flat boss there that may have the number stamped in it. If not there... go to the left hand side of the tractor.. on the flange between the engine and transmission housings.. up under and beneath and slightly ahead of the air cleaner oil bath. The number will be stamped vertically on that flange. You probably need a wire brush and a good flashlight to read it.

Once I find the numbers; where will be a good place to research them? This tractor has a vacume controled injection pump by the looks of it and the engine wants to ran at full throttle. real scary when I first stated it after sitting for 7 years. Thank God the shut off worked! Dennis

Just post your serial number on this Fordson page... we will tell you the month and year your Major was manufactured.
