Is there any chance that Fordson Major brake shoes could be replaceable by more modern, more easily obtainable shoes from another vehicle?

Are there other Fords (Thinking here of transit and granada perhaps) that have the same diameter drums?

Thanks!

J-P

Hmm - I didn't think of having them relined. I shall make enquiries and see what can be done here. In any case if I decide to go with new ones I shall keep the old shoes to build up a stock in case it ever gets hard to buy new brake shoes.

I haven't been doing much coasting downhill backwards recently, I have been too busy ...get this... actually using my tractor to worry about strange noises coming from the transmission!

I need to replace the brakes on the left- they have never worked (linings completely worn out) and I have finally become sufficiently irritated by only beíng able to make effective turns to the right to be motivated to do something about it...

Cheers for now

J-P

J-P,
Have you worn the brakes out already? Must be all that coasting downhill backwards that you were telling us about.

I had new liners fitted to mine by a local brake reconditioner. Cost £25.00 for four shoes.

Think these shoes were unique to Majors and as its these that you are relying on to stop on your roads do not bodge anything else!
regards
Brian

Similar to Brian, I had mine shoes rebonded in 90 mins for $55 in Australia. It has worked well. Check the backplate for tightness, as two bolts had sheared on one side on mine
