Thanks Brian. The battery has indeed been fitted negative earth, but none of the rest of the electrics have been connected. Mystery wires were hanging off all over the place until I pruned them back neatly! The dynamo has been in use as a fan belt tensioner only for as long as anyone can remember - it's not connected to anything now. The previous owner simply applied jump leads to the starter motor terminals when he wanted to start the tractor. I installed an old reject battery out of our Mitsu, and wired the starter switch to the solenoid so that I can start the machine in the proper way, but that's all I've done. The ASP starts so easily that I've only had to charge the battery twice all summer; and that's for literally dozens of starts. Until I try it, I can't know what state the regulator is in. I'm not optomistic however, the electrics have really been messed with. At some point some "bright spark" has connected the ASP's FPM oil pressure switch to the old FMD oil pressure guage. Doh... If I get the chance, I shall attempt some more 'restoration' over the weekend, and I'll let you know how I got on. Cheers for now anyway, and have a good weekend J-P
