Does the transmission brake in a 23 Fordson F suppose to work when transmission is in reverse. The brake is adjusted up and just barely stops the tractor in forward gears. I'm told that the clutch probably isn't that good and is not properly disengaging. Need help asap.

If my '23 Fordson in fact has a brake, it's shot like yours. I've never suspected there ever was a brake on my tractor. The clutch on my tractor doesn't like to release either, and especially so when the oil is cold. I've heard there is a procedure to dish out the clutch plates so they will release better. For now, until I decide to split the tractor, I will sparingly use the toe of my shoe to stop the belt pulley when disengaging the clutch to shift gears.

My boot has wear marks from stopping the pulley. The clutch is a wet clutch and and it is difficult to seperate two flat pieces of metal with fluid between them. By dishing them they seperate easier.
