I have recently purchased a 1963 Dexta and was wanting to know how I go about hooking up hydraulics so that I could possibly use a loader(if that's available). I'm new at this so any info is greatly appreciated.

On top of the differential, in front of the seat, and between your legs when seated you'll see the auxillary port. It's in the flow control valve.

Put your feed line from here to your control valves on the loader. The plug is a 1/2" pipe plug. Regular 1/2" galvanized pipe fittings fit it.

To put pressure on this tap you pull the flow selector all the way out and put the 3 point lift control handle in the fully raised position.

To put a return line on your valves you'll have to put a "T" fitting into the differential filler plug hole so you'll have a return and a place to add diff and hydr oil when low.

If you use the main hydraulics for pressure you can't run the loader and the 3 point at the same time. I always weld a chain on the bucket so I can lock it up to the bumper when the 3 point is needed.

If you want to put live hydraulics so you can use the 3 point and bucket at the same time you can tap in at the hyd pump flange.

There's a 1/2" plug in the pump flange cover down just above your right running board. Tap into it and you don't have to move the flow control valve so there is pressure to the 3 point at all times, and pressure to the loader valves at all times too.

When I start looking for a loader, am I going to have to find one specifically for a Dexta or are there "generic" types out there. Also, what is the horsepower rating on the '63 Dexta (144ci). Thanks so much for your help.

30.5 on the pto hp for a 144cid.

You'll need to find a loader that was for a N series or a NAA.

I don't remember the series number right now for any of the compatible loaders, but if it fits any older Ford below a 3000 it will fit the Dexta. You may have to drill more holes either in your Dexta cross member or the loader mount, but it will work.

Be sure when you find one that all the mounts are there because alot of salvage folks and even some old tractor buffs cut the mounts off with a torch. You can't get the mounts any more so if they cut them up you'll have a heck of a time building new ones without a pattern.

Thanks for all the info. I feel like I have a pretty good little tractor but I'm sure I'll have more questions in the future. Thanks again.
