here it is. Does the oil light is supposed to turn on when the key is on before starting the engine?? if not how can I know if that sensor work.

Ps: it might look like a stupid question, but hey! I don't want to run with low oil pressure.

Regards

Quick check is.

Take the wire off the sending unit. Now put a test light between the hot post on the battery to the pressure sending unit terminal. If the test light comes on, now crank the engine and it should go off when the oil pressure comes up.

If the sending unit does'nt work sometimes you can take varsol and clean the crud off the tip and unstick the ball and spring, and that will renew it.

The oil light sending unit is designed to operate the light anytime the oil pressure is 7-9psi or below and should be on at all times the pressure is low and before the engine builds pressure, so the answer is yes the light should come on when you have the ignition switch on before the engine is running.

There is'nt any such of a thing as a dumb question, and we don't want anything to happen to your Dexta either.
