Can somebody explain what the function is of the levelling box? All the book references i can find say the the fixed link should be the same length as the levelling link... so why have it adjustable

The reason for this question is simple, my dads old fordson major don't have one.

Many thanks

Charlie

Charlie, In many 3 point equipment applications, the lift arms are indeed the same length for level operation of the implement. However, in some cases, such as the moldboard plow, where a tractor drive wheel is operating in the furrow, there must be an adjustment available to be sure that the plow beams are level fore and aft, as well as left and right. Back blades are another common tool where angled operation is regularly used. Almost infinite combinations of left and right and fore and aft angles are available with the combination of the levelling box on one lift arm and the length of the top link.
