Would the board please help me with the following maintenance questions:

1. What type of oil filter do I use for a Diesel Super Dexta/Ford 2000? Part #?

2. Do I use the same fluid in both the gearcase and the hydraulics like in an 8N or are they separate? If not, What types should I use?

3. What other filters should I replace regularly? Please provide part numbers.

I would also like your recommendations on sources for the owner's/operators and workshop manuals. I think I need the I&T Ford Collection that includes Dextas and such. I originally ordered the Ford 2000 (FO-31) but it's more for the American-made 2000. My tractor's production date has been quite difficult to identify(see Oscar's site for more information)http://members.tripod.lycos.nl/otimans/
As always thanks for your help and knowledge!

Yep Lynn you need the FO-201 not the FO 31.

Your capacities are

oil w/filter 8 qts
tranny 3.5 gal
diff/hyd 5 gal and 1 pint
steering gear box 1 pint
coolant-9 qts

Your S-D runs 80W in the gear box and in the diff/hyd.

The diff/hyd check plug is over by the pto shift base, and the filler is the large plug to the right rear of the seat.

The tranny check plug is just above the right foot board and the filler plug is in the tranny case top.

Fuel filter:
NAPA # 3194
Fram # CC11816BTL
Carquest # 86194

Oil filters:
Wix # 51188, Fram # CH813PL
Carquest # 85188.

I think you're talking about the same one Jack.

The original one is a cartridge in a canister with one retainer bolt coming in from the top side. It's not a spin on type.

I use the same oil in the breather as I use in the engine. It fills up to the hole in the inner pan. I think it's 1 pint.

You're always welcome Jack. It helps me to joggle my memory and keep my books rounded up too.

Is it cold weather up there yet???

It's supposed to be about 40-45 here at night over the weekend. It's 96 out here today.

Burrhead, thanks for the specs. One more question, please: Can I use 8N lift arms to replace the ones on my Ford 2000/SD?

Some are the same from the reproduction companies, but if it's made exclusivly for a N series the lift linkage holes are in the wrong place and some arms are shorter than is supposed to be on the Dexta..

The ones for a NAA or a 600 series are exactly the same as your SD.

When you go to replace the arms be sure to mark the direction of the end pitch on the old arms. If you get the new arms on backwards or upside down they won't ever hook up right or easy to implements and you'll always cuss them and think you have the wrong ones on it.

You're welcome Lynn.

I just thought of something else here too. Tractor Supply had the last set of arms I got. They cost $28.95 each there, so they were alot cheaper than Ford, Ford was $39.99 each
