I have recently bought a Fordson Dexta Tractor and am trying to find out what I have. It's a three cyl diesel and had a few problems. I thought it was a 1961 model? I'd like to find out the year and model and if any one knows the torque settings for the head bolts and the tappet settings apparently incorrect tappet setting is the cause of the exhaust valves burning out.
- On the side of the transmission housing;
957E 7005
T4
K18D - On the engine block;
2GKNT172 I think ??
The body is blue .
Any help in identifying the year and model appreciated!

Harold, just happened to find your question. I too own a Dexta, bought it new when I was 19. Am now 57. It still runs though it needs lots of tlc. Am waiting for my new shop to be built next spring at which time I will attempt to restore it to it's glory. The Dexta is an English built tractor cloned after the 8N, with a diesel. A very good tractor for it's size but hard to start in cold temps. Your Ford New Holland dealer can order your manuals. Hope this helps. Al

Harold I don't have a serial # data book, but here's the torque and valve settings.

Head nuts-- 55 to 60 Ft pounds

All the Dexta engines no matter which size diesel, the intake and exhaust valves all set at 0.010 with the engine at operating temp.

Roll the flywheel mark up to TDC then check the #1 cylinder.

If #1 cylinder is on compression with both valves closed, set valves (count from front of engine) 1,2,3 and 5. Roll engine over to TDC again and set 4 and 6 valves.

At TDC if both 1 and 2 valves are partialy open set 4 and 6, then rollover to TDC again and set 1,2,3 and 5.

I din't know of any additive that will take out the sludge. I always just pull the tank and wash it out, or take it to a machine shop and hot vat clean it.
