Water Entering Oil

My FSM had been out of service for years before I got it. Now I'm slowly loosing coolant and getting signs of moisture in the oil. I'm moving into a new facility and need not to start this project just now. Is there any hope for delaying the inevitable with Barrs Stop Leak or other "snake oil"? I suspect aged O-rings at the base of the sleeves. Is there any liklihood of badly deteriorated sealing areas in the block or at the base of the sleeves? I don't want to replace the sleeves since my hours per year will be very low, I will re-ring though. Sorry this became such a long post.

I agree with Steven and Leo that pitting of the sleeves is a possibility. The major's Dagenham engine had wet sleeves that sealed with o-rings at the bottom but depended on the head gasket to seal them at the top. The sleeves could be shimmed so they were slightly proud of the block and so the head gasket would clamp tightly on top. The way I remember it, coolant in the oil usually leaked past the head gasket. I don't remember sleeve perforation being as common on the majors as it was on some other brands of tractors.

You will find the sleeves will be pitted. There is still a chance that they will work ok though. I have used high temp sealer in addition to new O rings with success.

Reading your note. Doesn't look good for you. I would suspect you have electrolysis which is pin holes through the liners and probably the ring grooves have been eaten away also. Fibreglass can be used to fix up block but new liners are the only way to permanently fix problem. Regards, LEO
