I am T nut owning a 1909 model T. While out scrounging for parts the other day I ran across a Fordson tractor behind a fence. I couldn't get close to see but I did see a magneto on the left front. It has the steel wheels front and back and it looked like everything was there. I would think it needed a complete rebuild. It is for sale and what I want to know is what would be a fair price.
Thanks Joe

Joe,

Are you sure you saw a magneto on the left front? It may be an aftermarket distributor. The coil box should be in the left upper center of the engine, if it is a Model F tractor the magneto will be in the flywheel... just like your Model T engine. The Model F tractor was called the Model T of the soil. The later Model N tractors had an external impulse mag on the lower right corner of the engine. Your engine serial number will be located on the upper right hand corner of the block, below the head and between the Number 1 cylinder ports. I'll email you.

Don

I'm pretty sure it was a mag. It looked like the Bosh DU-4. It was pretty far away though. I am going to go look at it when I can get in touch with the owner. I'll take some pictures too.
Some one on the Model T site said it was worth about $500 to $1000. Is that right?
I don't know what I would do with it. I just don't like to see something that old rust a way.
Joe
