I have been offered a -61 Dexta.

I'm not sure of the engine type it could be a 3-144 engine in it. Is the 3-152 engine better.

Does anywhone know if it is a relaible tractor or does it have any specific fault's that I should look out for?

The quickest way to tell which engine it has is to take a look at the injector pump,

The 144cid had a pnuematic govornor, and when they stepped up the engine to the 152 cid they put a Simms Minimec injector pump with a mechanical govornor in the pump,

Both engines are rated at the same pto and drawbar HP.

The biggest fault I've found with either is lack of maintenance. They are both reliable engines and parts are available when needed plus the tractor is easy to work on.

Thank you very much.

I have not been able to test-run it yet because of the cold weather, we have -23 C here today. But when I looked at it it had a Simms pump, but I did not see if it had a pneumatic or mecanical governor.

Do you think it's bad if it has the 144 cid and pneumatic governor.

But i like the size and the look's of that little tractor, so i will probably buy it if it runs okay.

The lack of maintenance is always a problem when you buy used equipment, so the first thing I will do is change filter's and oil everywhere before I do anything else.

The only difference I can actually tell with the pnuematic gov is the air cleaner and air tubing takes a better cleaning schedule to keep the gov working right all the time.

As far as workablity both the engines are very good and will last a long time between rebuilds.

Hi

By the way,
My two fordson dexta's (diesel, 3cyl), it looks like there is a big power-difference.
the one is from 1958, the other from 1961.
Is this possible, or is it just the one from 1961 is still in a better state ?

Thanks
wesley
