I have found an old Major Diesel in a ranchers pasture, and he is willing to sell it for a reasonable price. It has a bucket on the front and a backhoe attachment on the rear.He said he drove it to the spot it sits in seven years ago, and said the head is cracked, or the head gasket is bad.How do I find out what year it is, or how to get parts for it.The data tag on the front side of the fuel tank is missing.

Its more than likely this tractor has become a victim of electrolysis tiny pinholes have ocurred in the piston sleeves probably where the sleeves seat into the engine block allowing water to contaminate the oil. you have two options. one is to remove the sump tap up the sleeves with a hardwood block and big hammer. when this is done with any luck you will have access to the problem area. clean the area thoroughly with a good commercial degreaser and apply fibreglass sealant . tap the sleeves back down into place making very sure that they are flush with the engine block. replace sump and oil etc and you are back in business for at least 1000-1200hrs.your second option is to replace the sleeves an expensive excercise as is will mean probably a comlete recon of the engine, rings etc wheras with option 1 everything stays in place

If the engine is original, the serial number on it will help. It is stamped on the block at the top front on the right side of the engine looking from the seat of the tractor. At least it will the year production of the engine and that is what you need for engine parts.
