I recently bought a Dexta. I believe it is a 58 model. While working with it the tractor became stuck in reverse. I cannot move the shifter at all. This is my first tractor and I am stuck. Any info on how to fix my problrm would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

This is a common problem as the end of the shifter gets worn. Remove the four bolts that hold on the shifter cover, move both blocks to the center, move your shifters to center, and place the cover back on. Make sure your all in line and bolt the cover back down. Make sure you come to a complete stop before you shift into reverse, and shift gently, never force the shifter. You can weld a ridge back on the bottom so that it fits deeper into the block or replace the shifter with a new one. Good luck.

Replace the bolts that hold the shifterplate in place with screws and carry a large screwdriver everywhere you go. The end of the shifter can be welded up to account for wear. Burrhead says the dim. are 7/16"long and 5/16" wide. I just welded mine and will let you know how it works.

Why replace the bolts? I just carry a 1/2" socket and ratchet with me. I don't have to worry about "wollering" out the screw heads. The ratchet seems much faster, and I can be running forward again in about 30 seconds.
