I have bought an old Fordson Major -56 (they told me). I am unsure about the engine because the original was replaced with a diesel engine.
I would like to know when and where the engine is produced.
I found some numbers on it:

GD50J
J3167

I am not sure (hard to read).
Is there anyone who can help me find out something about this engine?

Best regards,

Clas

Clas,
The "where" is easy. It will have been built at Dagenham in England.

The numbers you quote are not related to any given although I would suspect that you are reading some of them wrong. They are sometimes hard to read.

Your engine, if produced after 1956, should have a flat machined area under No.1 injector. Any number stamped here will tell us the date of the tractor the engine was first fitted into. If it was a "skid unit" however this will not help.

The casting numbers are on the manifold side of the engine and should read something like : L19T. This decodes as September 19th 1952. After 1963 the casting codes would read: 3G19 which decodes as 1963 July 19th.

Your J31(67) Could be July 31st but the 67 is wrong.

Hope this helps.

regards

Brian

I found a stamped number on the manifold side:
4F1

Over that there is an "A" in a metalic ring and
under a big stamped "A".

Is this the right number?

Clas

Clas,
Non of the numbers you quote are casting codes or Fordson engine numbers. Have you a Fordson engine or was the engine replaced with a Perkins L4 or 4.270?
regards
Brian
