I have just bought a model F 1926,615704. How much oil do I put in the engine? There are two small taps on the left side of the rear crankcase and a nut with a strange protrusion above these, are these anything to do with oil levels? If not what are they for. I would be very grateful for any assistance. Cheers John. (Yorkshire, ENGLAND).

The two petcocks on the side of the engine determine oil level. Open the TOP petcock and add oil until it drips out. Just a word caution. If your tractor has been sitting for a while outdoors, you may not get a true level. Water has a couple of ways of getting into the crank case and will elevate the oil level. If you are not sure, drain the oil completely by removing the large hex plug at the bottom of the pan and the plug directly behind it. Remember drain from both plugs. Using the large hex nut only will not completely drain the system and you will be back where you started from with possible residual water in the crank case. Refill with a decent quality straight 30 weight HD oil. The detergent factor will help flush the engine and debris from around the clutch mechanism. Good luck and welcome aboard fellow Fordson enthusiast.
