I HAVE A 1962 SUPER MAJOR WITH A STARTER PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE SUGGEST WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE? THERE IS POWER FROM A HOT BATTERY TO THE RELAY,THE RELAY IS WORKING,THE WIRE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH IS HOT. THE STARTER MOTOR WILL NOT MAKE A SOUND WHEN THE START LEVER IS PRESSED. A JUMPER CABLE FROM THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY TO THE STARTER MOTOR WILL RUN THE STARTER CAUSING THE ENGINE TO TURN. IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE SWITCH MOUNTED ON TOP OF THE STARTER? WHAT IS THE CORRECT NAME FOR THE PEICE? IF THAT PART IS DEFECTIVE,WHERE CAN I FIND A REPLACEMENT? THANKS FOR ANY INPUT.

Have you confirmed that rust has not restricted the electrical flow at the nutted stud cable ends? I have seen (not on Fordson however) on Ford starter relays rust from the steel stud to completely kill the continuity. You say the "relay is working". Just hearing the snap sound is not enough. The contacts could be bad. The relay on my Fordson was faulty in just that way when I purchased it. Water had entered and done it's damage. BTW, does the relay snap when you depress the start lever? If it does the switch on top of the starter is ok. If it does not then that switch may in fact be your problem. Again, check all of the electrical wire ends for corrosion that supply that nameless switch. You say the power is going "to" the ignition switch, is it coming out? Even currently I have a dead spot in my keyed switch. When it fails to crank I wiggle the key a bit and off it goes. I hope these ideas help you solve the problem and if I've completely overlooked some consideration hopefully one of the others will point that out.
