I own and restored a 1929 fordson made in cork ireland.I was not able to find all cork parts so I used a few model F parts. What is your opinion of using different year and model parts? I think if you save a tractor from being destroyed then that is all that matters.I built the tractor for my enjoyment and would never sell it.But when some one who knows fordsons see that my front wheels are steel and not cast and my fenders are square not tapered I feel like I have done something wrong. What is your opinion on this?

P.S. How rare of a tractor is this??

J.W. I agree sometimes you must sacrafice and do what seems to be wrong, When I work on my tractor and can't get a part I will use what will work with out destroying the rest of the tractor but in turn still keep an eye out for the right part in hopes of makeing it right when Bugdet allows me too, I do things this way because my tractor is also a tool that I use and Can't have it down for a period of time. Chris,
You are right about the difference between a "tool" and a "collectors" tractor. If I use a tractor from my collection, although I try and keep it as original as possible there are times when a "non" original part has to be used. Like you I then replace this part when one comes to hand.

But if you are restoring a machine for showing then odd parts from different tractors lower its interest and value. If parts are not available then perhaps they can be made as near as possible to the original. For show machines I am afraid I think it has got to be right.

But then, if it is your tractor and you enjoy it, what the heck. As long as you can endure "old grumpies" like me muttering "that's not right" when you show it, enjoy and keep saving the old beasts ;O)

If you like it, don't worry what anybody else thinks. My father-in-law once told me when you have to do this and someone bends over and gives it a good looking over, to give them a swift kick in the rupp HA HA. I'm only kidding, but that was his philosophy on matters of this nature. Life's to short to worry about trivial matters anyway. Just keep looking up!!!!
