Hello
I wonder what the differens is between a major and a powermajor engine. I know that there is more horsepower in the powermajor engine, but what is the diffirens inside the engine. Is it another camshaft or is it another fuel injection pump,or what is it? Thanks in advance Christer

Christer,
Modifications to the engine took place over the life of the Major and right through to the Super. Fords tended to "tweak" rather than do wholesale modification.
The mods to the Power Major were in the valve rockers and injection pump to start with. The injection pump plunger stroke was increased and truck delivery valves fitted. The injectors were also changed. All this increased the "bang" and it was not long before modified crank shafts were having to be fitted and a range of different types of head gasket were introduced in 1959.
Different liners were fitted after August 1960 with a new style of composite head gasket.
As with most of the mods they could be used in earlier engines and we certainly uprated many FMD's to the later spec.

regards
Brian

Thank you Brian for the answers. The reason for my questions is that i bought a FMD-52 diesel a month ago.I had to change the engine because it was totaly broken.I bought another engine and installed it.But now i am curious about what kind of motor this realy is.The engine number is S342757,and on the manifoldside it stands 3H16.
Under the fuel incection pump it stands ELADDN 6015D I Wonder if this is a truckengine,or was this engine never mounted in a truck?
The fuel injection pump looks a littel like a Simms minimec but there is a big "mushroom" bolted at the rear end of the pump.I would be greatful if you(or someone else)could solve this little problems for me

Christer,
You have an industrial engine not a truck. The big "mushroom" is an early type of mechanical governor not a "minimec" pump. The governor type is either "GM" or "GV".

This engine could have been fitted in a combine, generator, road compressor or water pump, in fact anything that would require a diesel engine.

The pump you describe was not used on tractor applications as far as I am aware.

Your block casting code gives 1963. June 16th. so you have a very late engine or a unit that has had a new block.

regards

Brian
