Recently found and got going 1950's Approx Major, cannot get rear lifts to work ,pto going ok. Is there a switch to operate that I am missing. The up/down switch /lever has no effect. As you can see I am fairly new to this any suggestions?
Thanks

I had this problem. Firstly, make sure you have oil in the back axle!
Look at the rear axle dipstick. Is the oil dirty
white and thick? If so it has emulsified and is
probably jamming the system. If you have this
problem and the arms are in the raised position,
the following may help. Take out the 1/2in BSP
plug on the jacking point under the seat and to
the lefat hand side of the block. Then get a
couple of heavy friends to stand on the bottom
linkages. If there is a blockage a large quantity
of clotted cream will shoot out of the jacking
point all over the L/H mudguard and possibly all
over you too. If that cures the problem, renew the back axle oil
and you should be in business! To avoid future
emulsification, on cold mornings loosed the back
axle train plug SLOWLY and you should find some
water runs out. DO NOT undo the plug completely!
Once the water has stoppped running, tighten up the
plus and off you go.
If the above doesn't work, you have a real
problem, I'm afraid. Either the pump is buggered
or the pressure valve has gone. Check first, and
then get back to me.

You have to engage the PTO lever at the bottom-left as seen from the seat.
