I am looking for a front end loader for my 1963 Super Dexta. Today I looked at two. The Ford loader came off a 4000, and has a vertical plate that bolts to a corresponding plate on the front of the frame. The owner wants $1300 for it and it is in fair shape. I also looked at a Massey Ferguson loader for the second time. It has a horizontal plate that bolts onto the bottom of the tractor. This loader is in better shape than the Ford and the owner wants $500.

I have looked all over on my Super Dexta and can't find any plates, horizontal or vertical, and I don't see where one might be attached. I had posted about this about a week or so ago and got some encouraging information, but I am still stuck on how to attach either. The Ford is pretty much out of the running, but the MF looks good, if I can figure out how to attach it.

Any suggestions or experience with this kind of adaptation would be appreciated.

Bill

Bill,
Loaders for the Dexta built here in England had frames that went back to the rear axle and fitted on the fender bolts on the bottom of the axle. The front mounting for the frames were the holes on the plate on the rear of the engine. Some loaders also had arms forward to plates mounted on the front axle mounting bolts but these were only "steady" bars rather than load bearing.

regards

Brian

Hi Brian

So that's what those holes are for! I saw them but had no idea. Thanks for the input (again). I am still leaning towards the MF loader. There are no Dexta loaders to be had in the area (eastern PA and into NJ).

I called around, and got all kinds of responses. The worst was from a guy who tried to tell me that the tractor was built 29 years before he was born. He had a very deep voice for a nine year old. His mathematical abilities were on par for his age though. ;-) The best response was from a guy who remembered when the Dextas were new. He didn't have a loader for me, but he had lots of nice things to day about the tractor, and a good tip for shifting.

Talking to dealers, it is impossible to weld brackets and make things fit. I guess it is beyond their ability to think of such a thing. Of course, if they discourage people, then they get to sell new stuff.

I'll post as things progress.

Bill

I used to work as a service technician (not tractors) and used to weld things to repair them. A new manager came in and put a stop to that. His argument was that if you install a manufactured part intended for that application, liability is with the manufacturer. If you weld a part, the liability comes back on you, the repair guy. Took a lot of fun out of the job but we sold more parts!
