I was wanting to make the change to an alternator as the generator had run for too long with bad bearings and as a result had worn the armature and windings badly. I could have the generator rebuilt or replaced but I'm quite sure that replacement with an alternator would be much cheaper ($25.00 around here at the boneyards). My question is how would the wiring go as Dextas have a positive ground. Do you just reverse the cables at the battery? Or is it simpler to rebuild the generator. I just rebuilt the engine (perkins 3 cyl.) for about $1500 Can. so the poorhouse is in sight. The hydraulics and driveline are in excellent shape so after I paint it I hope to have something that at least acts like brand new, a real novelty around here. Any and all help most appreciated. Thanks

I bought my Dexta with GM alternator attached. The battery is negative ground. The tractor had been abused before I got it with wood screws forced into holes and lots of tape and wire holding things together so don't take the the info as gospel. However the charging system works fine.
