I have a chance to buy A Fordson Major Diesel (don't know the year as of yet) Tractor. What is a fair price for this tractor? It appears to be all there and is suppose to run okay. It has a 3ph and looks really heavy duty. I want it for mowing and plowing about 30A. price is around 2,500. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

Jack,
Your details do not give enough information to even guess at a value. However £1250.00 (English) sounds rather high for an FMD.
Check behind the starter or under No.1 injector for a number and post this for more infomation.
regards
Brian

That's impossible to answer. I'd have to see the tractor and drive it a bit. Then I'd be able to tell you if the price is fair or not. Don't just judge it by its looks: some tractors than appear to be falling apart at the seems are actually in good shape and vice versa.

Oscar

I paid $1900 U.S. last Oct. for a '53 FMD. Very faded on the paint, needed new rear tires, had lots of oil leaks and needed a new head gasket. Engine very good otherwise, did not use oil and started easily. Sheet metal was in very good shape, hydraulics worked well, injection pump very good and cooling system was very good.
Still fixing the oil leaks. Had to split the tractor to fix the xmission/rear end leak.
