Hi all...

I am a new Fordson Major owner and would like to know the date of manufacture. It has an "A28U" stamped on the engine block.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your block was made on January 28th 1953 but this is not the date or year of the tractor. Behind the starter on the flange is a long number starting "124....". This will be the one you want.

Thanks Brian...

I still haven't located the s/n on the flange you mentioned. I have a loader attached..Could it be covering the numbers?

Is there any other stamp that could identify the actual tractor production date?

On the firewall between the battery and the engine should be a small plate with the serial no. also try looking on the block under no.1 injector. But if your tractor is a true 1953 and not built up from parts, your number should be directly behind the starter with the first number towards the block and the last towards the outside.

Brian
