Ok, where do I start? I managed to find the serial # for my Fordson. Thanks to all that sent info. on where to find it. The only problem is that the second number is not in the best shape, but by deduction, and with some minor scraping and cleaning I think I got it right. I would like to find out as much info. as possible on it in order to make up my mind what I want to do with it. Here is all the infor. I can think of on the tractor at this time. -Fordson w/serial#725037
-Seven spokes per side of wheel both front & back
-Fordson stamped on front
-Radiator has solid sides(not laddered)
-Dashboard has several rows of numbers stamped on it, I think patent #'s by what I've read
-Engine does turn with the handle
-Fenders are both there but not in the best of shape(rusty, holes, etc.)
-Engine looks like all the pieces are present
-Entire tractor is rusty but looks restorable
-Gas tank has large hole rusted in bottom
-Lever on left side(shifter???)moves
-Lever on right side(???)does not move
My questions are:does this sound like it would be worth the effort to restore? I would rather restore it if possible that part it out. Is any other info. needed to determine year, model, etc.? If restorable, what are the best manuals to buy to determine if I do infact have all the pieces or what I need to get? How hard is it to find parts for? How high is the price of parts?
Thanks for any information

We all have to start somewhere. It sounds like you have something worth a lot more as one restored piece. I belive you do have a 27. The serial #'s started at 645611 in 27, and 739583 in 28. Hope this helps.

Hello Chris,
The Fordson site that Stephen suggested caters more for later model machines. Interesting if you've got a Dexta etc. There is lots more info on the net if you dig. Your Fordson sounds like a model F. (1927 - I looked at the serial numbers on this site). It sounds to be in reasonable condition considering it's been outside. The fuel tank should be able to be patched discreetly. (I've had to do this with a lot of my tractors) If you ask around near you for a tractor club etc I'm sure you'll get hold of a manual or books to help you. Do you have any electrics (coilbox on side or a magneto?) There sounds like there are parts readily available in the US if you can do some enquiring. I'm from Australia and can't really help you there! It sounds pretty good to me and I wouldn'ty be able to wait to get started!

Let us know how you get on!
Andrew
