I have seen pictures of a Fordson Major Diesel that had a Perkins 6 cylinder. Is this true? Was this a factory install, or a barnyard install? Any info would be helpful. Thanks

The Major Diesel(1945-1952), had the Perkins P6 Diesel Engine (i think 7,4L displ., 58HP). It was the first diesel tractor that also started in cold climates. After the P6 the P4 (four cylinder) was used.
The New major (52-58) then had the great ford built 3,61L diesel engine, that would even start under worst conditions. This engine was used in the new major, the power and the super major (with increased HP)

The first Fordson Major was made in 1948 and they used a Perkins P4, but it was unsucessful, so they fitted a Perkins P6, and that made the tractor about 46 Hp, and then in 1952 they made a Fordson Major Diesel with a Ford D4 engine, and this gave 39 Hp, and then in 1957, the Fordson Major Diesel Mark 2 came out with 47 Hp, and after that, in 1958, they brought out the Fordson Power Major and that gave out 50 Hp, And last but not least, the Fordson super Majorwith 53 Hp and the Mark 2 was 57.5 Hp.
