I was just shown an old Fordson tractor. All I can tell is that is on steel wheels and that the steering wheel is missing. Can any one tell what I should look for in determining what year/model, etc. it is? I am not even certain that is for sale. I fear that the engine is set-up and radiator is shot but looks intact. Please let me know.

The serial #s will be on the top front of the manifold just above the front runner on the manifold it is either a model F or a N that is the only ones with steel wheels if the front are wheels are cast it is probably a N a N has a magneeto a F has buzz coils most Ns the exhaust goes up a F goes down A N has a water pump a F don't there are many ways to tell the year but the easiest way is the serial #s sometimes the manifold gasket covers the # some just pry it away and post the #s I will tell you the year. Thanks Fordson29

Fordson29 is correct in that must Fords F's relied on convection for cooling, there were a lot of waterpumps made for them and some have them. I have a 1920 with one. Go to the libary and check out a book, " Ford and Fordson Buyers Guide by Robert N. Pripps. This is where I started and found it good background. If you find the serial number, on F's, located between the front two exhaust ports on the right front of the engine, I have a list that would tell you the year and month of production.
