Dave,
FMD Serial No. could be on flange behind starter or on plate on firewall just under bonnet hinge.

If you have found your no. under No.1 injector on the block re-check. It could be (08B)(7)79221. This would make it a 1962 Super rather than an FMD (or at least the engine from one).

On the other hand the missing No. could be (14)79221 which would be July 1958 and she could be one of the last FMD's built. The Power Major was brought in during July/August that year.

regards

Brian

I have a Dec. '53 FMD as well, SN 1273782. I'm in the process of restoring mine, about 95% complete on the mechanical. If you plan to do the same, contact me if you run into problems.

Dave,

Your Major was built in December 1953 early in the month.

If you look closly at the castings, axle, front casting, block etc. you will find, cast into the block, something like "N14U". This is the casting date code and will give you the exact date that casting was made " November 14th 1953". This is handy when identifying the Fordson Major ASP (All Spare Parts).

regards
Brian
