I know nothing of these kind of tractors but my uncle is selling one that he bought new in mid sixties. The engine smokes some but runs ok? the 3 point hydraulics are weak and wont stay up. He wants $1000.(in my area he will probably get this price from someone) and he says parts are hard to find. I was thinking of trying to fix it up to use as a utility tractor around my small place. So any opinions? Are there parts to be had?

I bought my super new in 1963 and wouldn't think of parting with it. Hourmeter stopped at 3300 hrs. 25 yrs. ago. Replaced it with an electric hourmeter which quit with 3000 hrs. on it. Only regular maintainance every 100 hrs. Replaced a cracked head about 20 yrs. ago. No problems getting parts as this is basicaly a Perkins 152 ci. and for a while, they did have a problem with cracked heads.

I ran a little dexta for my uncle when I was a kid
As I remember that was quite a nice little tractor. I still see a few still running in my
area, so you must still be able to find parts
somewhere. Good luck on your project.

Thanks wrenchman and David for replying. It is a perkins diesel. It just kind of seemed like my uncle was trying to discourage me.(probably cause we are family) He wrote a list of about 9 things that are wrong with it, but the 2 I mentioned were the most serious. I think I will get it and try to repair it. He is throwing in a good disc also.

if the engine is a diesel by all means get it.i have a 64 Dexta with a 3cyl diesel myself.wonderful tractors.the engine is a perkins i believe.parts are not a big problem, you just need a good parts man.NAPA can get most parts for mine.the hydraulics probably just needs a new cup seal for cylinder...yes,it is worthwhile.

speaking of parts; I have a Super Dexta 2000, and am in desperate need of a fuel filter. The model I have has two filters, one upstream of the fuel pump and one downstream. The one I need is upstream ( i.e. between the fuel tank and the fuel pump). It is located on the right side of the tractor. The local dealers (Fayetteville, N.C.)tell me the filter is no longer available. The filter element is all I need. Any suggestions?

If it's still the original cast here's the numbers for it. You can buy them all day around here so they are still on the market.

The crossover # are NAPA 3194
Carquest 86194.

Thanks for the info Burrhead. I'll check these out. My tractor needs more work so I'll probably be back for more help. Thanks again.
