Hi All
I have just aquired a FPM. After using it a few times the battery went flat. Investigation lead to the discovery that the dynamo was not connected. The previous owner seem to have made the tractor negative earth so maybe this is the reason. My question to you experts is what to do? Convert back to + earth and sought out the starter side of things? Or find some way to get the rest of the electrics to accept the neg earth?

thanks in advance John

Starter will work with negative or positive earth, as will the generator if it is polarised.

Question is, why was it disconnected? And where? There could be a short in the wiring. Very simple system, should not be hard to track down problems and fix.

Cheers,
Rx

Thanks Rx for the info
The larger of the two wires that goes to the generator is unpluged (at the generator). I think however that most of the loom has been bypassed. The ignition switch is not being used. Instead a non standard push button has been installed to activate the starter. I suspect that the ignition key was lost at some point. I suppose what I really need to get hold of is a wiring diagram so that i can put things back to original spec.

Thanks again
John
