Yet another serial number request

I have just purchased a Fordson tractor that appears to be a Fordson Super Major, if I am to trust the badges and colour.

Looking at the serial number, however, reveals a number that does not seem to match any of the ones that appear on the various lists I have seen. I found the number on the right side front of the engine (diesel), right where it should be, I think, and it's 1602174 (the 0 is a weird shape, but not misshapen enough to be a 'D" or 'Q').

I am in Canada, if that means anything.

It isn't pretty, butit seems to run well. I drove it about 25 miles to bring it home, with no glitches.

My first order of business is to test the alternator to see why it isn't hooked up, and to replace it if necessary.

I must say that Yesterday's Tractors is a wonderful resource, and I will be subscribing.

Thanks, Larry

Larry,

Looks like you have a Super Major built in May 1961.

May not look pretty but she will have a heart of "gold". (Hope it does not all come from your wallet :0))

regards
Brian
