I have a friend with the remains of what she describes as a "Major diesel" in the yard. Apparently her father bought it for parts for another one and later sold the running unit and left this one sit. I want to better identify it so someone who needs it can get it. otherwise its scrap metal. All we have is bellhousing back, including wheels. I suspect '60's vintage from the blue paint and style of steering box and other features.

There is also a 4 cyl diesel block, head, pistons and rods in a shed, they might go with it. Ideas?

If you know enough to help me locate the model or s/n or visually identify it, plz email me.

Thanks a heap, Charles.

Charles,
Check in two places as the position of the identifying number changed.

Check under No.1 injector on the block. If the head has been removed, its the water pump end just above the injection pump mounts. There is a flat area, at the front, close to the top surface where the head fits. A number and possibly letters are stamped here.

If no luck, look on the block flange immediatly behind and above the starter.

Post the numbers and we can give you a good idea on what you have.

regards
Brian

Thanks, Brian. I'm about 75% sure the block and heads are for the Major, and I'll give them a good going over on Thurs and also look for anything on the rest of the tractor that may identify it.

Thanks, Brian, I'll be back over there on Thursday looking at it and I'll give the block (which I'm about 75% sure is a "Major" block) a through going over. I'll also try to find any kind of markings, casting numbers, etc on the rest of it that may identify it in some way.

What part of the country/world is this tractor/parts located. That will determine if I have an interest first. Thanks Bill

Luthersville, Georgia, about 50 miles south of Atlanta, about 12 miles off I-85.
