Two 6V or Two 12V Batteries for FMD?

I have one 12v battery and maybe it doesn't spin the engine fast enough to start(needs a shot of either). Someone I know uses two 12V batteries in parallel and claims it works better than two 6V in series. Which way to go? I had given thought to using (2)6V batteries because of simply jumping the two together.

On the Major Diesel you need a total amp/hour capacity of 138ah.

You can get this by 1 x 12 volt - 138ah battery, 2 x 6 volt - 70ah batteries connected in series (+ to -) or 2 x 12 volt - 70ah batteries connected in parallel (+ to +, - to -).

It does not matter which way you go as long as the ah capacity of your batteries add up to 138 - 140 ah. A higher ah would not matter but a lower would not give you the power to turn the engine over fast enough.

regards

Brian

If your battery has more Ah:s than 138 it lasts longer and the starting gets easier. So if you have possibility to do so, go ahead and by two 12 V batteries with high Ah capacities. Although that can be done only if they are small enough to fit in the tractors battery department.
