Are there any disadvantages or problems running a Fordson TVO engine purely on petrol?

Also, I've heard that rather than using relatively expensive parafin, a petrol/diesel mix can be used.
Does anybody have experience of this and the ratios used ?

Thanks in advance

Pete

I've found that my Fordsons vaporise on petrol and cut out. I suppose it depends upon your manifold. Mine would have been set to run on kero and have rusted solid in this position. I mix 50/50 and this seems to keep them happy. I can restart on this mixture when hot (crank handle start)
Anyway my 2 cents!

Pete,
Have run my 1952 E1ADKN on a mixture of 50% 4 star and 50% Diesel for 20 years. On this mixture she would start without petrol.

We have now installed central heating and the oil we use is Kerosene (parafin). Its the nearest thing to the old TVO but I still add petrol although only about 25%. Price is about 16p a litre and she goes well on it.

regards
Brian
