Frank,

Your Dexta pump would not lose its prime as it is under the oil in the rear axle. What symptoms do you have? Could be the wire mesh filter is blocked but this would be rare. Also you might have the wrong grade of oil in the rear axle.

the pump does hold pressure to the bucket and it takes a long time for rear hydraulic to work. i have regular tractor hydro oil in it.how do i access the screen? i just bought this tractor and someone else was messing with it.are ford n's manuals the same?

Frank,
The fact that your arms and bucket holds up shows the valves are ok. The screen is really only accessable if you split the tractor at the rear axle.A good flush with kerosene and oil mixture and a quick run with this in the system may sort it out.

Have you changed the oil? It should have 20/30W in. The oil reccomended when the tractor was new was 80W but this was later modified.

If you have an auxillary service chest with a flow control on it. Little adjuster in thing that looks like a snail shell under the seat and above and behind where the loader pipework. The valve in this has been known to stick.

The manuals for the N's are not the same. Check here and on Oscars site. I would go for a Ford manual in preference but this is my opinion.

When you have posted before you said it works OK when warm. This sounds more oil or filter related.

regards

Brian

Ok Frank, Getting a better picture now. Your loader is worked from a separate valve which has a flow and return from the tractor. To get the tractor to work this system:
1. The little Draft/Position control lever must be set in Draft.
2. The lift arms must be lowered and held down about 1".
3. The lift arm control must be up to the top stop.
This will cause oil to flow from the pump into the loader valve and should sort your problem.

If the lift arms get to the top of their travel they actuate a hydraulic cut off valve in the lift and switching off the oil flow.

Hope this sorts it

Brian

Whereas you are operating a front end loader from the internal pump. Are you sure the oil level is adequate to keep oil above the suction as some volume is consumed/trapped in the lift cylinders as the loader is lifted. If that is good then I would suspect the oil is not proper and is getting too much foam. Proper hydraulic/diff fluid has antifoam additives. My front end loader operates from a dedicated pump on the front driven from the front pulley hub by a shaft, but it is a Super Major, not a Dexta.
