Hello and Merry Christmas,
Do I need to drain the oil in the back of the tractor to replace the seal on the PTO shaft and what sort of a seal is it? ( o-ring or proper oil seal or something else?)
Thanks in advance
Regards Shane

Shane,

If you can get her on a steep slope with the nose down you will not have to drain much out at all. Draw the shaft out, its about 7' long. Remove the circlip from behind the bearing and remove the outer housing. Seal is in here. It is a proper seal not an "O" ring.

regards
Brian

Hi,
Excuse my ignorance, but how do you draw the PTO shaft out?

Remove the four bolts around the housing and pull the shaft. May need a little lever where the housing fits onto the rear axle. A tap in the join with a small chisel helps to start it.

The exact size of the seal is 1,5x2.508x5/8. The original #770055A, it has a wiper lip as well as the standard shaft seal, and was made by Aeroquip.
