Hi, Can anyone help us please!
My friend has a Fordson Major tractor and we would like some information (year etc)She thought it was a 1938 but is not sure.
It is blue in colour with orange wheels, it has rubber tyres. The silver emblem on the front seems to be hands and grain of wheat with something else, not sure what.
It has the words Kero petrol written? on it, and stamped on the block near to the exhaust is J2U and near the gear is J13U.
If there is any one who can help us we would be most grateful for any information.
Thank you.
Betty

Hello Stephen, I live in Parafield Gardens, South Australia, just North of Adelaide.

Thank you for the info. I think we have a bit of cleaning to do before we find any more numbers but will let you know.
Thanks again. Betty

If the tractor has a text "Fordson Major" in it, it is either the "old" Major (E27N) which was made 1945-1952 or the "new" Major (E1A) that was made 1952-1958.

I'm not sure if the old major has the emblem on the front so your friends tractor might be the new major in which case she is quite wrong with the year. Go to the "tractor photos" on the left side of this page and write "Fordson Major" into the search box so you'll see what they look like.

Thank you so much for the information John.
I have a few changes (sorry) Fordson Major is a type of badge on each side of the bonnet. The tractor has 3 point linkage.
Kerosene powered is written on both sides of the bonnet.
there is stamped? on chassis near steering. AC4A
A2B
Airmal (Airmall?)
8-1-38
If you or anyone else can help pinpoint the date more accurately I would be most grateful.
Thank you
Betty

I bet you are in Australia, yes? Aussie fordson majors had "Kerosene Powered" or "Diesel Powered" in white fancy script on each side. What you have is a 1952 through to 1955 Fordson Major E1ADKN.

If you lift the hood there is a plate on the panel that seperates the engine and battry. On this plate you should find a date, thats if its a Aussie tractor.

If not, quote the engine number, its near the starter moter on the flange just under the air cleaner.

Hi Stephen B.

We have found a number on the panel between the engine and the battery, though it is not a date. the number reads either: 13671846 or possibly 1267846 (we think) as it is very worn it is a bit hard to make out. Hope you can help? regards Betty from Oz

The link William posted has the numbers. the lower number you quote is 1953 and the higher one 1955. You will find that same number stamped on the engine block near the starter motor under the air cleaner. Its on the flange where the engine bolts to the gearbox.

Where in oz are you? I am in Gisborne, Victoria.

You can look for yourself from this site. (It reads Fordson Major DSL in that site but the same numbers apply to the kerosene and gas models too.)
