Value of Major?

I would like any input on a fair price to ask on the following:
1955 Fordson Major - it has a VERY heavy duty Shawnee loader mounted on it (with it's own Hydraulic pump mounted up front) OK tires (filled) and sheetmetal (some surface rust - no major rust-through) It it runs well, but needs a head gasket (water getting in the oil). The loader seals are all good and it seems to work fine. Power steering, heavy duty drawbar and 3-pt etc. If I sold the loader separately, would it fit anything else? Thanks for any input - Jason

Water getting in the oil, thats probably not a headgasket, is it bubbling through the radiator (take the cap off and lok for air bubbles). If it is then its a headgasket. It will keep overheating aswell. It could be the seals at the bottom of the liners, in which case you need to drop the sump off and replace the seals.
It could also be a cracked waterway in the head.

Hate to rain on your parade but water in the oil means 95% of the time leaking seals at the bottom of the sleeves. This means a engine teardown and replace seals providing the sleeves havnt been eaten away, and usualy they are. Sleeves and pistons are available, add about $400 to the price to fit a engine kit, thats if you do the labor yourself.

It would not put me of the tractor provided the price reflected the repairs. This is because I would then know the tractor had a rebuilt engine.

Thanks for the info - I'm a bit torn, I know it will be at least a couple years before I have a chance to tear into it (there is an Oliver ahead of it) - I'm not hard up for the $$ and hate to take a hit on it selling it "as is", but on the other hand I'm not really attached to it, and am not real excited about storing it either. I'll have to ponder it. Any ideas on what it would be worth if I did the work and got it ready to go? I have found only a few of these tractors, and none with a heavy loader on it.
