Hi there, I write after seeing your web-pages (which are great by the way!). We have a query and are really hoping you could help. We’ve been trawling the net and have contacted people by email asking for help but have had no response!

Ok so, basically, my Dad has been the owner of a 1952 New Major since the mid sixties, and has recently decided to restore it fully. Its date of original registration is 27th February 1952. It is one of the rarer petrol/paraffin engined models which were made. We are actually trying to identify exactly how early it was produced, as it appears that the engine No. is 'No.1' - possibly indicating that it was the first engine off the production line? This may not be the case at all - but can you shed any light for us? One other piece of information that may help is the chassis/serial No; it is 1218901. Thankyou in advance - I really hope you can help! Kindest regards, Sarah Jackson

If you give me the clutch casting code, cast onto the clutch housing on the left hand side of the tractor, I can date it to the day. (Presuming it hasn't had a new casting there - but i doubt it)

If u give me the engine number i can date that to the day aswell, so we'll be able to tell if its had a new engine or if its orginal.

Hi Paddy,

Thanks for your offer of help. I've just had a look, and there are two code's. B80T and B12T. Are these what you were asking for?

Again many thanks,

Sarah

My I&T book makes 1218901. within the span of the following numbers.

Feb 1952 for numbers from 1217854
March 1952 for numbers from 1219501

Hope this clears things up for you.

I have a similar E1ADKN with a serial number of 1218886, so made in the same month/year as yours. Restored it last year and I have a Repair Manual, so happy to pass on any information you would find helpful - but I'm no mechanical genius (they lurk around on this board and are always willing to help).
