I have a 1956 FMD. It has the second edition cylinder head, the new type cylinder head according to the manual, as I have found the identification marks to prove this. So basically there was a modification in 1956 from the 1952 - 55 type and I was wondering if there was any increase in power on this major from the 1952 - 55 type and what the power of my tractor actually is?
Cheers
Its engine number is 1395385, if that is any help

You still have a mark I 220 engine. The hp increase rated at the pto goes from 48hp in 1955 to 41hp in 1956, and back to 48hp in 1957. I had to partially rebuild mine last fall and found that there are 4 cams that could be in this engine. One of the upgrades was with the lifters and the collets. Any of the manuals are available for this tractor. The mark I engine is serial # 1217101 - 1425096
