I have an Industrial Fordson made in England that is presently an orange of sorts. I would like to know the correct color code, also the serial # on the block above the exhaust is 7679 and I know this cannot be right. The head is high compression and has the numbers N6050A stamped into the topside. It has hard rubber tires an American Bosch mag and a Purolator filter assy. What year is this tractor? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

The orange for the industrial major is correct. Though I couldnt tell you the colour code. I know they are orangey because of 2 reasons. First when I had to replace the block in my Farm Power Major after a droped main bearing the closest one I could get was out of a Power Major Industrial and it was orange. And second reascently I have seen pictures of the industrials and they were a ornage sort of colour there 2.

Fordsons were orange from mid 1937-1939 and had oil bath air cleaners and a tall air intake stack, older English Fordsons were dark blue and has water air cleaners and the air intake on the steering column.

Thanks for the info you have provided thus far, but I need info on the industrial. Have you seen one of these or do you know of any material showing these tractors and or literature on what was original. These machines were used in factories thus the hard rubber wheels and were given different attachments to accomodate the work required of them ie. crane booms, winches, etc. Mine is gas only with a cutout (factory) into the tank for the air cleaner assy. It has a straight front axle like the earlier F models and a 30 degree angle steering wheel. Mag is located rt. front below manifold attached and driven off of gov. Dash says Ford Motor Co. Ltd. England but the ser# on the block says 7479. I need help on this. Thanks Joe

Joe, the number to refer to when dating these tractors is on the right hand side of the block infront of the manifold. It has 6 digits. If it is prefixed by a letter then yours has a replacement or re-con unit. this would make it more difficult to date but I will try and help.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks Roland and I hope you can help with this. If you would look in the Help Identify page I have uploaded a pic of the Fordson. Hope this will help you ID this old bird. Thanks Joe

Hi Joe,
It's certainly an interesting photo! Can you describe the dash in more detail? Are the letters recessed or sticking out and does it have two embossed lines either side of 'ENGLAND'? It is definately post '39 as the rad casting has the spark plug holder fitted. Is there provision for a battery on the l/h side of the engine towards the steering box? Try and find that 6 digit number for me.
Good luck!

Roland

Joe, if the colour of your N is original then it will be pre 1940. All wartime Fordsons were painted dark green so the bombers couldn't see them on the wharf at Dagenham! A good book to source is Fordson model N 1929-1945 by Allan Condie. The ISBN number is 0 907742 35 1. Provides lots of info, photos and diagrams on these tractors, including industrial models. It isn't expensive, £8.50 in England. Hope this helps.
