I just purchased a ford dexta and while cutting the pto will disengage. No noise or grinding just appears to back out. If I hold back on lever it will stay in. I have a couple questions, is this a three position lever? It seems to be disengaged all the way forward, engaged but will not stay in a middle position and again engaged in the most back position but will back out unless I hold in.
Also do you think I will do any additional damage if I continue to use by holding lever back untill I find out and repair problem?

It's easier to fix the problem than to hold the pto in gear Don.

Take the pto shift lever out then weld and grind the fork back down til it fits snug into the shift rail. It's pretty common for the fork to wear down like that.
