Put the engine on Top Dead Centre on piston number 1
Theres a little mark on the timing plate next to where the fibre coupling turns round, and theres a mark on the metal that goes on the left hand side of the fibre coupling next to the pump, line those 2 up and there you have it - to line it up you have to loosen the two bolts on the right side of the coupling, or it may be just one bolt, can'tg remember
Anyway, hope this helps - good luck
Interesting thing to happen - you say teh coupling broke - thats a fault ive never heard of on the old majors - cheers, i like knowing all the possible things that can go wrong so I plan how to fix em

It will depend upon tractor model. wheather it's early or late model. No. 1 piston is coming up on compression stroke. I removed oil filler cap and looked at rocker arm action. Then turning engine slowly until the the notch in rear flange of crankshaft pulley is aligned with pointer attached to engine front plate. On early models, you will find this mark on the pulleys, on later models, the timing mark is on the fly wheel. You will find a cover held by one bolt. Repeat rotating engine until you can see the mark, it should be 23 degrees. E-mail me if you have any other questions @ w1long@hotmail.com. Good luck, Bill
