I just purchase a fordson tractor, it has super major across front,blue with gray rims,3sp with hi-lo,four cly diesel,have looked on right side of trans. for s/n,did not find, plate under hood says made in England,has ford 5000 sticker on side
hood,head lights on side front,is it a 5000 or super major,or what, thanks frank

Sounds like my beast!! I have a 1963 Fordson Super Major but mine has grey wheels, hood, and fenders. (I believe that in 63/64 some, like mine, were decaled on the hood as a Ford 5000 Diesel). Mine had been repainted....with the wrong grey!! I found out that the grey Fordson used is actually a kinda beige....very pretty tractor when painted up. I found a note about that here in the message archives, but realized exactly how beige when I pulled the instrument bezel and found the original color...unmolested by mother nature....on the inside of the bezel. My auto paint center was able to do a perfect match....

On the right side of the engine block, near the #1 injector, there should be a machined flat with a number stamped.

08A - 1961
08B - 1962
08C - 1963
08D - 1964

Good luck, and include some pics when you can. Mine is in pieces right now, but I cannot wait to put her back to work, albeit much lighter work than she is probably used to!!
