Hyd/trans oil in both gearbox and tranny. New Holland #134D or any of the new 10/30 Hyd/Trans oils. About 20 litres (5 gal pail) in the gearbox and about 45 litres in the tranny. My gearbox (large filler plug just ahead of the tranny dipstick) was dry when I bought my '61 but now it shifts super smooth.

Sorry, I should add ... the previous recommendations for hyd/trans oil is for a 61 Super Major.

This is another good source to ask questions.

Link

On the majors discussion board, Brian Dye is the Major man there. He is quite knowledgable....

Good luck!

Mark

Does anyone know an easy way to install a new fanbelt and powersteering belt without having to take the shaft for the hydraulics off first!!!???

Ours is also a Fordson Major about the same age- not sure of the exact year. It has a drop in fuel filter, not a screw on, so I guess that makes it older than younger:) The best thing about it is how easy it starts! Then in purrs like a kitten.

Josh I'm getting in over my head maybe a Major man will show up soon, but it will work to fill thru the check plug. You'll just have to pump it in or use a hose and funnel. That's the check plug you found. There should be a filler plug in the top of the housing .
