I'm really excited, owning this Ford diesel tractor. The ole'boy who sold it to me, said"the only way to keep an implement in air, is to pull back hard on the control lever and don't let go." Well, I let go and sho' nuff. It (the control lever goes to the down position. Pull it back up and hold it real hard, and I'm in the air again. The implement I'm lifting is a 6' heavy duty bush hog... Where do I start, what should I look for? BTW: Real nice tractor ,other than this issue!!! Thanks for all replies!!!!:-)

Ron,

Two things for a start. Have you got the hydraulics in 'draft control'? Lever is on right side of hydraulics case, almost level with the control lever. It should be pointing forwards along the body for 'position control', downwards for 'draft control'. If it is in draft control, try turning it to position control and see if the implements stay up then. If they do, then you are OK, because they are supposed to drop in draft control except when you have the lever almost right back.

If the implements drop in position control then my mechanic had to replace a pin in the hydraulics control that the control lever cam runs on. If this is badly worn then the only way to lift the implements is to hoist the control all the way up to the transport position. Drop it down a bit and on my tractor the implements hit the ground really hard.

Hope you have good times with the tractor. Once I got my hydraulics sorted out mine has not missed a beat.

Steve

A 1000 thanks, to you Mr. Steve. Such wonderful information, and yet so simple. I shall follow your advise to the letter.
Respectfully, Ron.

I have had my 61 super dexta for about 20 years. Bought it from my uncle who purchased it new in '61 along with cultivator, disc and planted for about $1900. My tractor is not an antique toy but has worked dilligently for me since purchase. I use it for pasture, garden and yard work. A few years after I purchased the tractor, the rear mounted impliments would "Drift" down after raising. After long suffering, I decided that I would try to correct. Located under the seat there is a hydraulic piston. Mine just needed a new "O" ring that cost about a $1.00. Since I replaced the "O" ring, I can hold a 1,000 pound implement at any position even with tractor not running. May check.
