Hello,
My name is Rob and I am the new owner of a 1952'ish Fordson Major Deisel with a front end loader. I am totally new to owning a tractor, and I have the following questions that I am hoping you can help me out with.

1. What types of maintenance should be performed on this unit, and the frequency?
2. What type of fluids should I be using?

(I have purchased a service manual for this tractor, and I am mechanically inclined in Cars & Trucks, so hopefully I'm not over my head...)

3. Any ideas as to why the rear 3ph does not work at all. Symptom is that the lever wont even move. I'm wondering if it can seize inside?

I JUST got it home yesterday, so I will probably have a million more questions in the next few weeks.

Again... Thanks for reading and I'm real glad I found this site... Keep up the great work !

From my experience with a 1962 Super Major with loader and backhoe which suffered a lot from lack of maintenance I can tell you that one of the most important is to KEEP THE BOLTS TIGHT. Regular attention to greasing and oiling will be very worthwhile also. I think many of us have their favorite fluids, but I really believe that any of the reputable brands are pretty equal. Be aware that the front and rear transmissions have separate oil supplies and the rear transmission oil also operates the hydraulics for the hitch.
