Just got a 1957 FMD, doesn't want to start- part numbers?

We are newbie tractor owners. The Tractor was pull started when we looked at it. We got it started once, but then it died while being driven. I am suspecting/hoping it is just dirty fuel.

Could someone tell me where to get the "tune-up" parts? Filters (uh where is the air filter, don't see it in the IT manual that came with the tractor.) Also if you know a part number from another company that would be helpful. I just called the New Holland dealer, he had never heard of this kind of tractor. Also is there any thing to look out for? The manual is underlined in places, I am guessing this is things that have been worked on before.

It has a factory loader on it. When it was running it seemed to be pretty strong. Any idea what it is worth if we decide to get a newer tractor? I will try to be more optimistic ;)

I also reasently bought a Major with a similar problem. It would crank only if you used the cold start button on the side of the injector pump.I found the coupling between the motor and the injector pump had a broken bolt in it and had let it slip out of time.Easy fix ....replace the bolt and reset timing to 29deg. BTDC....cranks like a new one now.

The FMD is a great tractor and, from the sound of it all your tractor needs is a little T.L.C., and all you need is a little confidence which will come with experience. Dont worry about your main dealer's negative attitude - they arn't interested in anything over a couple of years old, or if they can't sell you a new tractor. Parts are obtainable, but you may have to look just that little bit harder to find them. Look at this and Oscar's Fordson website as Burhead suggests. All of us who post on these sites will do our best to help you, after all, we were all novices at one time.
Just think positive and you'll soon have her running perfectly.
Regards,
Peter.
