Could someone please help me identify what fordson major tractor we have, any clues as to how much oil to put in when donig an oil change.

Graham,
There were 2 Fordson Majors.
the first one was made from 1945 to 52. & the second one 1952 to 64.
According to the good book, second one had a sump capacity of 12 pints or 6.8 litres.
Its a good idea to get the manual.
