I have 1962 Fordson Super Major Diesel with the optional power steering with 2 problems.

1. the control valve in the piston leaks after I had it rebuilt. Is that just an adjustment or was the o- ring damaged during the rebuild?

2. The power steering pump doesn't produce enough pressure

Has anyone had any experience rebuilding either one of these.

There are no adjustments in the power steering unit. If it leaks it has a bad seal or sealing surface or it has been incorrectly assembled.

The pressure produced by the pump is inversely proportional to the flow rate. It develops practically no pressure when the steering is equalized since the valve allows free flow from the cylinder inlet to the outlet. When the steering is being turned the valve moves far enough to develop enough pressure to push the cylinder. Testing the pump requires a gauge in a tee fitting and a control valve between the tee and the cylinder.
